VAT aspects of conferences and similar events in hybrid format (on-site and/or on-line and/or streaming)

With FAIB Associate member, VAT Desk

Speaker : Philippe Noirhomme, Certified Tax Advisor

Organising an event such as a conference, a congress, a seminar in Belgium or elsewhere etc. leads to VAT consequences that could be complex to master. With the development of on-line sessions, e-learning platform and digital educational products this has widened the door to discussions about the VAT treatment of remote events. The VAT Directive has been modified to take into account that technological evolution. However, there is no consistent view throughout the EU Countries on how to treat VAT-wise remote and hybrid events. Should they be treated as physical events or as digital services or otherwise? Depending on the qualification, VAT will be due differently.

The FAIB Lunch-debate of 24/11/2022 is aimed at explaining you the current and future VAT rules applicable to events including remote ones and at drawing your attention to the pitfalls as well as the possible way-out to avoid them.
