Subject: From Legal Texts to Daily Practice:
Getting Internal Rules Right for Your Organisation
Every not-for-profit organisation operates within a web of rules, but not all of these carry the same weight or serve the same purpose. Internal rules are often underestimated or overlooked, yet they play a crucial role in turning legal frameworks into practical, day-to-day governance.
The session will explore the role and scope of internal rules, why they matter, and how they interact with the Belgian Code on Companies and Associations. We will look at the key legal requirements, the place of internal rules within a wider governance framework, their power and pitfalls and recurring questions that arise in practice.
The session is designed to be concrete and practical, drawing on real-life situations faced by not-for-profit organisations. It will also highlight potential upcoming changes to the Belgian Code on Companies and Associations and what they could mean for not-for-profit organisations operating under Belgian law.
